Legitimat al Clubului Dinamo Bucureşti, Francisc Horvath a fost de opt ori campion national la lupte greco-romane, apogeul carierei sportive antigându-l în 1956 când a urcat pe treapta a treia a podimului olimpic. Este primul român din istoria luptelor medaliat olimpic.
